Cllr John Parkes
Reform UK councillor for Western Springs
Active on State
Council: Cannock Chase
Term ends: 2 May 2030
Hi My Name is John Parkes, i am the Town & District Councillor for Western Springs Ward in Rugeley Staffordshire, I am 63 years old and i was born in Brereton and have lived in Rugeley all of my life, with exception to when i was away on military duty, i am very passionate about my town and the serving the people that live in it, i am a left leg amputee, this is due to type 2 Diabetes, an therefore i was unable to work as a Truck driver a job i had done for over 20yrs. but having my leg was not going to stop me!! i have got my Diabetes under control, i play Wheelchair Rugby & i frequent the local Gym at least 3 times a week. and to fulfil the rest of my free time i am an ambassador for the RBL & H4H's i am an active fund raiser for Blesma the amputee charity for service personal. and i am involved with helping the local Victory Church. and along side all that i emersed myself in local politics, something i had no interest in until Lockdown when the council meetings were streamed live on Zoom. then i watched every meeting, and became more and more interested. when the live meetings started again i started to attend. then i stood for western springs on RTC, and was successful, i found this a most enlightening experience. In May 2026 i along with 13 of my fellow party members stood for council within the CCDC area, mine being Western Springs. I won that seat by quite a comfortable majority. My aim now is to serve to people of Rugeley and the greater Cannock Chase to the best of my ability, and provide an honest and transparent councillor for all of the people.
