Matthew Spooner
Labour councillor for Cheadle North East
Active on State
Council: Staffordshire Moorlands
Term ends: 6 May 2027
Raised in Cheadle North East before moving away for work in financial compliance and dispute resolution before returning home in 2020. I took the decision to stand for election after seeing Cheadle suffer under previous administrations and miss out throughout my childhood and start of my working life. This has limited Cheadle in its ability to grow and be a fulfilling place to live and work. No one should have to move out to get on as I did. Since being elected, I’ve championed Cheadle as a place where the people are humble, ambitious and stubbornly fair minded who haven’t received the services or investment they have deserved over the past 25 years. I have passion for community building and local empowerment, holding roles as Trustee of both Claire’s Community Pantry and The Oak Project. I am a recognised Workplace Domestic Abuse Champion and have a very strong interest in access to local mental health services.
